The Hills Are Full of Horses

Mounting a Norwegian Fjord horse, Lukas had his first horseback ride ever during Thanksgiving weekend (Naushon Island, Cape Cod).
This past weekend was marvelous, memorable, even a bit magical. I took Joyce and the kids on a Thanksgiving road trip up to Cape Cod, where we stayed with my parents for a few days… watching old classic movies, talking late into the night, eating mounds of turkey. Of special significance to me were two memories I took away. One was the opportunity to visit a strictly isolated island, accessible only by personal invitation from a resident, and then on a ferry. The place is called Naushon Island, and was the most enchanting, storybook, old world, English-countryside-esque place I have perhaps ever been. Joyce and I were there together with our kids, riding Norwegian horses and walking the sheep trails on our fifth anniversary.

Rhys was also thrilled with his first ride on a horse. Naushon Island was the most amazing place I have been in years.
The second memory was that of my preaching in my home church for the first time in my life. This is the church I grew up in, the church that my father planted, the church in which my spiritual life was formed. I preached a message about the current state of the American economy, entitled “The Hills Are Full of Horses.” I hope you will listen to it: “The Hills Are Full of Horses”.

So neat to come by your blog and see your beautiful family enjoying such a special memory on Naushon Island. Too cool! I also enjoyed listening to part of your sermon. Your sermon titles are so interesting – that must be your expertise from Christian World News in use!
hi age! didn’t get to hear your sermon in person, but listened to it online today. wonderful encouragement! and i suppose you’re tired of hearing this, but you sound very much like your dad when i first heard him preach. i’d love an opportunity to chat with you at some point when you’re visiting on the cape. say hey to your lovely wife and the little tribe for me!
Hi Adrian, I have to confess that I’ve stolen your sermon title “The Hills Are Full of Horses” and used it a number of times to encourage others (and myself) over the past week since I heard your preaching from the Heritage pulpit via podcast. Simple message, great message. Glad you enjoyed your trip to the Cape. I admit I miss it!
