Kudos to San Joaquin

I want to give three cheers to the Episcopal Diocese of San Joaquin (Fresno, Calif.), and their Bishop John David Schofield, for their historical decision today to secede from the US Episcopal Church at large. It may cost them a great deal of legal problems, as well as a great deal of expense (both cash and otherwise)… but the cost will be nothing compared to what they would give up by staying in fellowship.

For those who think this is an issue over sexual orientation, read your facts again. This has little to do with sexuality, and much more to do with authority. It’s really the same issue I blogged about most recently, “Upon This Rock.” I often quote my father as having told me numerous times in my childhood, “Adrian, the fundamental issue of the entire universe is… authority.” Indeed, it is.
